Evidence dossierThe evidence dossier — both sides, by the receipts

Wheel of Time is bait-and-switch: S1 advocacy 39 mixed → S3 advocacy 76 (+37), freestyle rises after setup season 1 6.

## The two positions Side A (book audience) holds that season one was a mixed but promising adaptation of the Two Rivers departure and that later seasons invent major relationship arcs and freestyle Jordan while doubling identity-forward production choices 1 5 7. Side B (defenders) holds that TV must expand character emotion, that Judkins is a fan making necessary cuts and additions, and that early casting diversity was always the plan not a later switch 2 3 4. ## False claims on side A It is false that season one had no casting controversy; major Emond Field and Borderlander race-swap flags (Egwene, Perrin, Nynaeve, Lan) exist from S1 8. It is false that every S3 complaint is only about identity; faithfulness falls from S1 60 to S3 25 as freestyle rises 1. ## False claims on side B It is false that message-load and freestyle intensity are stable. WhatSphere scores S1 39 mixed, S2 67 advocacy_driven, S3 76 advocacy_driven; season_advocacy_drift is bait_and_switch with delta +37 1 6. It is false that inventing major Rand/Lanfear/Egwene relationship emphasis is book-present; Judkins has said those relationships are not really in the books 2. ## What both sides should accept Amazon adapted Robert Jordan with Rafe Judkins as showrunner 2. Casting of central Two Rivers characters diverged from book-coded looks and was public before and after premiere 8 4. S1 still scored lower advocacy and higher faithfulness than S3 1. Show rollup weights later seasons more and lands advocacy_driven 1. ## Why trust erodes Legacy outlets often treat book-fidelity anger as reactionary while under-weighting on-record freestyle admissions 2 3. Outrage outlets sometimes claim S1 was pure and only later went activist, erasing early swap flags 8 6. ## Values, not facts Whether a long epic may race-recode Emond Field and invent TV relationships is a values clash. The dossier does not crown a winner 1 2. ## On the sources Primary-ish: season scores, swap flags, Judkins TechRadar freestyle admission 1 2 8. Secondaries: Vulture/MovieWeb on S2-S3 adaptation choices; RT-era political framing of S1 3 4 5. Pattern: Witcher also bait_and_switch; Rings of Power consistently_high 6.
