Cross-generational, in this catalog, means the two broadest audience-breadth classes: universal and mass-market. design/scoring.md section 7 computes breadth from the four quadrant scores. Let min be the lowest of young men, young women, older men, and older women, and let range be the highest minus the lowest. Universal means min is at least 60 and range is under 20. Mass-market means min is at least 45 and range is under 30. Mainstream, which this intent does not include, is an average of at least 50 and a range under 40. Targeted is a wide split, max over 60 and min under 40. Niche is everything that matches none of those rules. Taking only universal and mass-market is the published definition of a high floor across all four audiences, which is what "more than one generation, and not only one gender" means in the numbers we actually store.
The age axis separately calls 50 cross-generational, meaning neither youth-only nor mature-only. Breadth is the stricter object, because a title can sit near 50 on the age axis and still collapse on gender, or sit high for young audiences and low for older ones. A quadrant average near 50 with a range of 35 can be mainstream and still leave an older or a younger audience cold. Those titles are browsable. They are not in this intent. The cutoff is the stored audience_breadth value, so the page cannot disagree with the title page: if the title says mainstream, it is not listed here, even if a hand average looks close. Reclassifying a near-miss would be a scoring change. This intent does not do that.
Advocacy and faithfulness are not membership tests. A universal title can be entertainment-tier or advocacy-driven. The bands remain 0–20, 21–40, 41–65, and 66 plus. A reader who wants the broad set and the entertainment tier crosses to entertainment-first, or compares the two landing pages. Adaptations in this set still carry a faithfulness score on the title page when they are adaptations. Originals remain N/A on that checklist. The most-cross-generational-movies data story and the gender-balance genre story both map here, because both are about scores that hold up across groups rather than about a single quadrant peak. A story that has stored related title ids opens that funnel directly. This landing page opens the catalog-wide breadth set.
The URL is /browse?intent=cross-generational, with the same parameter on /explore. Provider and min_confidence AND on when present. Ordering is the mean of the four quadrant scores, then title id, so a title that cleared the floor by being merely even does not automatically outrank a title that cleared it by being high. The mean is a sort, not a new score, and it is not written back to the database. Status must be complete or verified. The methodology page is the source for the breadth inequalities and for the axis definitions those inequalities sit on. Corrections are for a quadrant input that cites the wrong credit, not for a request to move a mainstream title into universal by hand.
The weights and the bands this page cites are published on the methodology page. The live set is browse this intent. The same parameter works on explore.
