Severe franchise drift is a property of a franchise, applied to the titles that belong to it. franchise_audience_drift stores one row per franchise. Its drift_severity column is the enum stable, mild, significant, or severe. This intent keeps a title when it has a franchise_titles row whose franchise is currently severe. It does not average the title's own quadrant scores and call the average "drift." Drift is the stored comparison of that franchise's baseline entries against its current entries: the four quadrant deltas, the faithfulness delta, the advocacy delta, who was lost, and who was gained. The severity label is the pipeline's classification of those deltas. Filtering on severe uses the label the pipeline already wrote.
A title in two franchises is in the set if either franchise is severe. A title in a stable franchise is out, even if the title's own advocacy tier is advocacy-driven or its own quadrant scores moved relative to the title that came before it. Sequel-to-sequel change that never crossed the franchise threshold is a different question, and it is visible on the franchise page's drift chart rather than in this URL. The intent is the severe bucket only. Significant, mild, and stable are not folded in to make the page look fuller. An empty severe bucket is an honest empty state, and the browse page offers a way to widen off the intent instead of relaxing the enum.
Membership still passes the public status gate. A severe franchise whose entries are partial or deferred does not leak those rows into the directory. Deleted titles stay deleted. The optional confidence and provider parameters apply on top, so "severe drift available on Netflix" is /browse?intent=franchise-drift-severe&provider=netflix and the same pair on /explore. Both routes append the same SQL fragment and the same bound parameters. The provider fragment matches title_watch_providers for country US and type stream, against the allowlisted name, not against a caller-supplied string.
The franchise data story about the MCU's audience shift is mapped to this intent because the story is about franchise-level audience change, which is the table this filter reads. When that story stores a related-title funnel, its Explore control opens /browse?story= with that slug so the reader sees the story's own titles. The intent URL remains the catalog-wide severe set, which is wider than any one franchise and is the right landing page for the question "where did a series move hard."
Ordering uses the young-men score only as a stable public ranking inside the set, not as a claim that severe drift is a young-men phenomenon. Primary audience lost and gained are on the franchise row and on the franchise page. This page does not restate them as if they were title scores. The methodology page describes how quadrant scores are built. The franchise drift insight describes how a franchise is compared with itself. Neither formula is edited here.
The weights and the bands this page cites are published on the methodology page. The live set is browse this intent. The same parameter works on explore.
